Manzanillo is a small fishing village set in the Gandoca National Wildlife Refuge and in front of Arrecife coral reef. The area has excellent restaurants from sophisticated to roadside chicken shacks, grocery and liqueur stores, snorkeling, fishing trips and jungle tours. All within walking distance. This remote area is a little harder to reach, but much more rewarding for the effort.

Driving

The roads are paved and relatively smooth, there is no need for a high clearance vehicle. From San Jose take ruta 32 East to Limon, ruta 36 South to Hone Creek and 256 to Manzanillo. Happy House is about 500 meters off of the main road 256 and is the last house on the road to Hotel Almonds and Corals. The drive time from San Jose to Happy House is about 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic.

Regional flight

The fastest way to get to Happy House is by regional flight. Sansa Airlines typically has 2 flights per day departing from Juan Santamaria airport to Limon. The flight takes about 30 minutes and costs approximately $100. Its about a 45 minute drive from Limon airport to Manzanillo. Rental cars are available in Limon or a taxi ride will cost about another $100.
